· First thing that one should ensure is to keep the soft leather especially deerskin away from contact of sunlight. Sunlight is said to be the biggest enemy of leather as it tends to dry it up regardless of how it is. The best way to keep it in fine condition is to store it in a dark place where no heat or sunlight is allowed at all.

· Remember that waterproofing or any extra contact with water can also ruin the condition of the leather so it shouldn't be done at all. If you see that the leather is becoming very wet, then dry it out instantly using a brush or piece of cloth so that it doesn't harm or enter the layer of leather.
